This event aims to celebrate and empower women in the field of economics. Here are short descriptions of the panelists:
- Professor Shareen Joshi
Shareen Joshi holds a BA in Mathematics-Economics from Reed College and a PhD in economics from Yale University, with a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago’s Department of Economics. As an applied micro-economist, her research focuses on economic development, human capital, and poverty alleviation, and she has contributed to significant policy changes and development programs through her work with various global institutions. - Professor Garance Genicot
Professor Genicot’s academic focus is on development economics and contract theory. Her research covers topics related to labor and credit contract, risk sharing, female property rights, aspirations, social networks and inequality. She teaches development economics at the graduate and undergraduate levels. - Professor of the Practice Mary Hallward-Driemeier
Mary Hallward-Driemeier is a Professor of the Practice of International Economics at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, with previous roles including over 25 years at the World Bank where she served as Senior Economic Adviser and led significant initiatives on trade, innovation, and private sector development. Her extensive research covers technological change, firm productivity, financial crises, corruption, and women’s economic empowerment. - Dr. Aparna Mathur
Aparna Mathur is a Senior Manager in Economics at Amazon and a former Senior Fellow at the Kennedy School, as well as a former Senior Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Her distinguished career also includes roles as an economist at the American Enterprise Institute, a scholar at the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity, and academic work in economics at the University of Maryland.
