Applied Economics Curriculum
The M.A. in Applied Economics curriculum provides rigorous analytical training and practical skills to advance your career in economics and policy analysis. You’ll gain a foundation in key economic models and tools through the core courses and then delve more deeply into areas of economics of particular interest to you. Designed for students at every stage of life, the program offers both full- and part-time options, so you can pursue your goals without pausing your current commitments.
Curricular requirements
To earn your M.A. in Applied Economics degree, you must complete 30 credits of coursework and a two-week, non-credit math camp.

If you study full-time, you can complete the 30 course credits in one calendar year. This includes taking courses over the summer.

Required Courses
Summer Math Camp
Before your first fall semester in the M.A. in Applied Economics program begins, you must attend a mandatory two-week, non-credit Math Camp focused on calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics. This is held for three hours in the evening, Monday through Friday, for two weeks.
Core courses
The four core courses you are required to take provide you with a solid grasp of the key models employed in economics and the main tools for econometric investigation and data analysis.

Elective courses
In your elective courses, you can focus on applying economic analysis to a range of contemporary economic problems, increase your knowledge of economic and financial theory or advance your skills in computation, data analysis and econometrics. To earn the degree, you must complete six economics elective courses (18 credits).
